A former circus clown, Chester Conklin came to the Sennett Studios in 1913, one of the first new wave of comedians hired by Sennett in Keystone’s first expansion. Conklin was a  Keystone Kop before developing a character known as A. C. Walrus, named after his distinguishing moustache. His broad comedy style fit well at Keystone, and his easy temperament allowed him to work with most of the other Keystone stars.
